Announcement from HCAA re Cancellation of 21 March 2020 Founders’ Day Dinner

Dear Alumni and Friends,

We celebrated Hwa Chong’s 100th Anniversary last year in high spirits and style, braved the rain to turn up for the dinner and viewed the magnificent display of fireworks together.  We are all set to celebrate the 101st Founders’ Day on 21 March 2020, especially since this year heralds a new century of development – “A New Beginning” – for our alma mater.

But it is undeniably also a challenging time for Singapore and the rest of the world, as we work hard to contain and stem the spread of Covid-19.  Considering the current DORSCON rating for the Covid-19 situation, Hwa Chong Alumni Association, after due and extensive deliberations, and with advice from key stakeholders, has decided not to proceed with the traditional Founders’ Day dinner banquet on 21 March 2020.

The safety and well-being of all our students, teachers, staff, and friends are our utmost and unnegotiable priority.  As much as we are disappointed like all of you, we believe that in the current climate, it is the responsible decision to avoid mass gatherings like the dinner banquet. We would appreciate your understanding and support of our decision.

21 March is an important day in the every Hwa Chong-ian’s calendar, and a meaningful time for old boys and girls to not just reconnect with one another, but also to remember our founders and to show our appreciation to the school and teachers whom had nurtured us. We will roll out alternative e-celebration initiatives to commemorate the start of Hwa Chong’s journey in the new century, and we hope to get everyone involved!
